Snowfall the trail might slow the teams down a bit, and the wind in Western Finnmark will pick up again later in the evening.

This year’s Finnmark Race has been quite varied when it comes to the weather. Rough weather has had a lot to say for how the race has developed.

– It seems like they will have calmer weather early in the day, says Ida Fossli at Meteorologist institute to NRK.

This will be an advantage for the teams.

But things can change quickly.

- If the teams arrive in Alta late in the evening, closer to midnight, the wind might pick up again, Ida Fossli says to NRK. – There might be strong gales in Western-Finnmark later in the evening. That might be an advantage for the top heat of the Finnmark Race. Others will struggle to make it to Alta this evening, according to Fossli.

Trond Anton Andersen, Press Officer in the Finnmark Race, says that the last part of the race will be extremely exciting. – Even though no storms are predicted, there will be some snowfall, says Andersen.

When there is soft snow on the trail, it will take speed down a bit, especially for the front teams. This gives the teams further behind an advantage.

Several teams have now started on the last legs of the race. From Karasjok, 133 kilometers remain until the finish line in Alta.

The race is as tight at this stage as it has never been before at such a late point in the race. It remains more or less open who, out of five or six contestants, will be the first one to cross the finish line in Alta late Friday evening.
